We are a family passionate about packing shoebox gifts for children all over the world through Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child is a project of the international relief organization, Samaritan’s Purse. Their mission is to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Samaritan’s Purse ships these simple gifts outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S.
In December 2015, we decided we could pack more than just a few boxes each year if we shopped smarter and throughout the year. Erin was already a bit of a couponer and clearance hunter so we put that knowledge to use and are now able to purchase high quality items for 70-90% off. We look for deals all year long and will go to multiple store locations in order to get the quantities of items we need to fill the shoeboxes. We get some crazy looks with our shopping carts overflowing but it is all worth it when we get to assemble these gifts that will mean so much to children all over! In 2016, we were able to pack and ship 306 shoeboxes which were distributed in Mexico, Peru, and the Philippines! We were able to send 409 shoeboxes in 2017 to Zambia and Honduras. In 2018, 400 shoeboxes went to Ecuador and Mexico and then in 2019 another 400 to Panama and Mexico. Due to the circumstances in the world in 2020, we increased to 800 boxes. In 2021 we did 1,000 shoeboxes For 2022 we plan on doing 300.
Along with the cost of the items to fill the shoeboxes and the shoeboxes themselves (about $1.00 each), Operation Christmas Child requests a $10 donation per box to cover shipping the box to its final destination. As you can see, the cost of packing hundreds of boxes will start to add up quickly. We ask that you please consider sponsoring a shoebox in order to help with the shipping costs of the over three hundred shoeboxes we are packing this season.
